Decorating with mirrors can be an effective way to make a space feel larger than it actually is, however, you want to be aware of what the mirror will be reflecting before you hang it. If you hang a mirror opposite a staircase you'll see a second staircase; if you hang it in the dinning room opposite the entrance to the kitchen you may end up reflecting a sink full of dishes: place it across from a window and you will probably bring more light into the room. Before putting any hooks in the wall, check out the reflection you will see from various angles.

I am never sure how high to hang a mirror or piece of art on the wall. What's your opinion?

Good question Sarah! Most people tend to hang their art or mirrors too high. A rule of thumb is to hang it so that the center of the mirror (or piece of art) is about 60" off the floor.
